What Surgery?

If you didn't know Sadie had surgery yesterday you wouldn't think anything was wrong with her. Yes she may hesitate before running to the back door to bark at the birds, but she still does it. The dogs, to Sadie's delight, keep our backyard free of birds. She gets more exercise chasing birds through our bushes and eventually out of our yard. Because the dogs are in the birds are out. Sadie has spent a good portion of the day looking out the backdoor at all the birds gathering. Honestly I haven't seen so many birds back there at once since we have lived here. There were five alone within 4 feet of our patio door and I could see more in our bushes and yard. I did get her to roll over earlier so I could check out her incision. I'm honestly impressed it doesn't look more like she was just cut open. I expected it to be more swollen and red. BTW, the pain meds work like a dream. When Neal's alarm first went off this morning (6am) I tan downstairs to give Sadie her first pain pill. The poor thing had peed at the end of her pen getting part of her bedding wet. I gave her a pill and then had to hand feed her some special dog food. Did I say before that she is on a special diet right now??? Well she is. UD I think they call it. It's a prescription canned food (you ever heard of having to have a prescription for food???) that is supposed to work for 4 out of 5 dogs who had stones. Well this morning I had to hold can food in my hand so she would eat it. She has been out several times today and is peeing well.

Well... it looks like she is ready to crash for a while. I'm kind of glad. I've been worried about Kaitlyn hurting Sadie. A couple minutes ago Kaitlyn ran beside Sadie and fell down. She is now back on her bed where Kaitlyn can't get to her. I think Kensey is bored. He is such an inside dog and Sadie likes being outside, but they always want to be together. Guess who compromises??? Kensey of course. I know Neal would think that's about right the guy always doing what the woman wants. Hehe... Well I guess it is kind of true. There has been a couple times today when he will walk to the backdoor. I know he is begging for me to lock him out. If I just put him out he will want back in. If he is out and I put the baby gate across then he is fine with staying out.
BTW, the picture above was from when I was pregnant with Kaitlyn.

I am sure there must be chicken livers in the UD prescription diet. UD stands for Chicken Livers.

Zoe! UD does not stand for Chicken Livers. It would be called CL prescription diet.

Well, if you're so smart, Maxie, then what DOES UD Prescription Diet stand for?

Maxie said...

EVERYONE knows that UD stands for Ultimate Dog Food.

Oh.

Well, whatever UD stands for, I am glad she is recovering from her surgery. After I got spayed last fall, I didn't feel so good for a day or two.

Yeah, I'm glad Sadie is better too. I was also glad to read that she is our kind of do. Birds have no business, and I mean NO BUSINESS in a yard.

Zoe said...

I agree with you there, Jackie!

Well, I think bird chasing is for the birds. Kensey is smart to let Sadie handle the bird trespassers.

I don't know about that, Maxie. Sadie obviously takes her responsibility to keep her family safe from birds very seriously. That's why she wants to get back outside, even though she isn't fully recovered yet.

You just have to admire a dog that puts her family's safety before her own well being.

Jackie said...

You sure do.....but does it still count as devosion to her family if chasing birds from the yard is really really fun too?

Maxie said...

Jackie, when are you going to learn to spell?! N-O No. It doesn't count as devotion if Sadie is having fun chasing the birds....Jennifer will you show us a picture of Kensey? He sounds like the really devoted dog. He stays on guard inside.

Well, I think you are wrong there, Maxie. It is okay to enjoy doing your duty. It shows that Sadie loves her family.

Well, I am just glad our friend so far away is feeling better. I hope that today was a good day for her too.....but I still think that she needs some boiled chicken liver with cheese.

Well, you can't beat the healing power of boiled chicken livers with cheese, but I am pretty sure Sadie will heal just fine on the Ultimate Dog Food Prescription Diet.

Maxie said...

Sadie, we don't get much boiled chicken liver here either. The last time I had it was when I got in the trash.

Keep healing Sadie! Hope you feel good enough to CATCH a bird when you get back to your yard!
